Description<\/h4>\n

The Journey to America<\/em> is an experimental short film about an ambitious writer’s longing to go to America and become famous.<\/p>\n

\u00a0The film was part of K\u0101rlis V\u012btols’ personal exhibition The Journey to America<\/em>, which also included black-and-white watercolours of Americans encountered in the imagination and a slide-projected \u201clonging stimulator\u201d \u2013 photographs from the 1989 journey made by K\u0101rlis’ grandfather, Aleksejs Kalni\u0146\u0161. The role of the main protagonist is played by K\u0101rlis’ then-classmate, Aleksandrs, who realised his teenage dream and today lives in the United States of America.<\/p>\n

\u00a0The film was made using footage filmed by K\u0101rlis V\u012btols in 1997. Retrospectively, it can be considered his earliest film.<\/p>\n
